Note to YellowPages yell.com – how not to sell to me

When I answer the phone I usually say “James Governor”.

Here is a helpful hint – when someone says their name when they answer the phone, its best to not then say “Could I speak to Mr Governor?”

CRM or otherwise its best to just listen before you begin speaking. [Its called engagement and attention].
I then tell you I don’t plan to advertise in yellowpages, as its never brought me any business, as far as i know. You reply that without a paid advertistement why would it? Good answer.

But you know what? There is this cool thing called the internet. Its your competitor, and its a more powerful marketing tool than you can imagine. Calling me arrogant and hanging up on me just because I question the value of your offering is not the key to a successful sale now or in the future.

To be fair your map of my location is excellent. Thanks for the free listing. Still, at least you don’t list us as a body care shop. But then who knows what will happen given you hung up on me… Ah well.

Or worse still, when Jude answers the phone: ‘This is Judith’ for the other person to say: ‘Have you got a minute Den?’
