<description>Having become a music historian in my retirement I was interested to see how people believe the www is developing.

I have to say I was very disapointed with LastFM&#039;s content but it did give me a clue as to how things might develop in the future.

Currently people like me correspond with networks of collectors via Yahoo groups (eg ValliSeasons, Motown Treasures etc) and we share music via the 20 gig of web space available for uploads.

The e-groups act as a valuable way to share news and finds re our specialist music interests. It struck me that LastFM could be the way of enhancing the e-group experience....if the specialist music was playing in the background and could be used to feature tracks which are highlighted in the texts.

If LastFM could support the e-group philosophy with background music it would be an overnight success and would move people away from Yahoo groups in droves.
