Adopting a standard is like drinking water, bumping your head on the limits of language

An Antic Disposition: When language goes on holiday

Lovely little post by Rob Weir. He namechecks Wittgenstein and Confucius in the first paragraph of a blog about open standards, so I had to link to him.

Rob exhorts you to work out what you want from a standard. If the benefits are there you should drink fully. But don’t do it because the EU says, or Microsoft astroturfers say. Choosing to adopt a standard for the right reasons is like drinking a cool glass of water. It will slake a thirst.
