JavaFX Preview SDK Interview and Demo

This morning Sun released the JavaFX Preview SDK. This bundled up release includes NetBeans support, “Project Nile” which adds Photoshop and Illustrator into the JavaFX workflow, and, of course, an overall pre-release version of JavaFX, Sun’s RIA framework.

Last week I talked with Nandini Ramani, Director of Engineering for the JavaFX Platform at Sun. We first sat down for a short overview, and then jumped into a short demo of the JavaFX SDK.

Interview

Nandini gives us a quick overview of the preview release and then we jump into a description of the common workflow for developing and deploying JavaFX widgets and applications:

Demo

We start out seeing a demonstration of JavaFX’s video capabilities and then jump into NetBeans to show of several other JavaFX-based widgets:

Disclosure: Sun is a client and sponsored these videos. Adobe is a client as well.

  1. Hi,

The videos were great, just one suggestion. I have multiple monitors, and it would be nice to have the video running in full screen on my second monitor while still doing work on my main monitor. however when i try and focus on the window on my first monitor the video exits full screen? is there a way to fix that?

    Thanks

    Tristan

  2. I'd like a detailed explanation about why the preview SDK is not available on Solaris and Linux

  3. Tristan: you might try going directly to the blip.tv page where the demo is hosted and downloading the video. Then you can play it locally as large as you like.

Charles: we talked off camera about this a lot, actually. The explanation was that they only had the codecs and such for Windows (and Mac?) at the moment but were working on it being multi-platform for the final 1.0 release.
