Alistair: glad you liked it. Thanks sharing your observations as well. I think you're right about the PaaS/HaaS battle there – man, I feel like such a chump typing those crazy aaS things now-a-days ;)

Good summary. I got the same impression — that Velocity was really two sub-conferences, one on operations/availability and one on performance/development.

Structure went surprisingly smoothly (I saw a lot of the antics backstage that went to making that happen) and six-person panels are always a challenge. But I think that when we fast-forward a year, it'll be very interesting to see which projections worked, and which were hyperbole.

Structure was the best for networking and schmoozing, IMHO. I also found it interesting how the "bare metal" cloud guys ganged up on the "development" cloud guys, both onstage and by the coffee stations. There's a war brewing there, with the HaaS folks saying, "you'll get locked in" and the PaaS guys countering with, "why reinvent the wheel when we've already built one for you?"
