  1. indeed you should. Quest is a really solid company. Great at sales, nice acquisitions, knows how and when to play the Microsoft to heterogeneous card. Great database tools (Oracle and SQLServer), good share in ActiveDirectory tools, free compliance portal that pulls together all all your compliance related info from any other Quest products. etc

  2. interesting pitch from splunk. should we maybe do a roundup looking at splunk, prism microsystems, tripwire, loglogic, etc?

  3. I have never heard of Solidcore, are they are startup? I know that Tripwire leads this market and several others have recently expanded positioning in attempts to ride their coattails

  4. You also have to throw Solidcore into the mix if you plan to look at Tripwire.

  5. Very interesting discussion… all the companies mentioned here have great marketing pitch and they might all be solving same problem or may be not.

Market leader means nothing to me as an IT person. All it means is that they are larger, have more money and have been around longer.

What is important is how good is the technology and does it meet all my needs? So I would try all of them and then see what works for me.

  6. You are clearly a tripwire employee :). Not even a question about it… I stand by my comment to evaluate technology to meet your needs.

Some of the products mentioned above are really different and can serve multiple purpose.

For example I dont know how to even compare splunk to tripwire.. I bet you don't know either and hence trying to use your money power to scare others off…

  7. What are you nuts? In a down economy, “market leader” means EVERYTHING. I’d be hesitant to spend some of our hard-earned dollars on products from a company we have never heard of (like that Solidcore someone mentioned), or one that is struggling to land its first customers. Very few start-ups make it these days

  8. I'm a product manager at Splunk. It would be great to join in a round-up of products and see where we are. While we are new, we think we have a different angle on change management and IT search. We also have a PCI application which would be interesting with Solidcore and others. We're happy to participate in whatever way makes sense.

  9. How is it a CEO has time to post such drivel? Is it like the Maytag repairman over by you? Are there no deals you can be helping your sales team on? Oh, that's right. You laid them all off in January!
