I hadn't thought of that. There's that toggle to only show @'s from people you follow, but I have that turned off as I like to see comments directed my way from everyone. There's a very cool capability in Twitter with the "@replies" setting. I have it set to "show me all", which means I see all messages 'directed' at me (via @), whether I'm following a person or not.
