Urk - now I have to post! Here's how things ended up...

http://www.joncollins.net/wordpress/?p=211

... and I quite agree on the pricing. How to make a billion: sell Vista upgrades to XP at 20 bucks a shot. You heard it here first.

If they were $50, I'd look forward to them. With the OSX releases at least, there's been at least $50 worth of value in each one. I wouldn't pay for the Windows Service Packs though. Those usually haven't added anything worth getting excited about as a consumer.

I think the thing is that this WS isn't just another thing that POX can do decently and with less complication, but rather a genuinely desirable service that would be useful to have as a tool.

I'd be interested in it even if it didn't have the WS- prefix.

Danno: you're spot-on about the pricing. If OS upgrades were priced at $50, I wouldn't mind paying for them. But the $100's that we're used to are simply absurd. I'll look into more details of WS-Management. As I was saying, it does seem OK...which is weird coming from a WS-* hater like me ;)

Two points: A) Apple's been doing pretty good at selling people OS upgrades. Though personally, I think the price point is still a fair bit too high. They should drop it down to $75 or so. Family plan is awesomulent though and shows that they actually understand consumers (and I'm totally going to try and get my family members to move to Macs).

B) WS-Management actually sounds kinda cool, but I wonder if it's going to actually be relevant, since Vista's looking like roadkill. Also, it sounds like it might be somewhat of a security concern (but I haven't looked at the spec or anything so that's just ignorant speculation).
